Starting a Hovercraft Business

We get a lot of inquiries from individuals and companies interested in the business opportunities available for hovercraft, so have created this guide which we hope to update on a regular basis to keep information current.

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

In 2006, production switched to a supplier of HDPE hulls. This material was lightweight and durable, and was molded in batches of nine, in a choice of colours. To differentiate models, the HDPE version was referred to as the SPX version.

In 2010, we switched supplier to a specialist who demonstrated a supplier thermal control system, resulted in a stronger yet lighter HDPE version. This model is referred to as the SPX TCC.

Some glass fibre hovercraft suppliers try to spread dis-information about HDPE, obviously because they sell thin glass fibre hulls with under powered engines, so it is important to request samples of the Hull to see how lightweight it is, how buoyant it is, and how easy to repair it is. Samples are freely available through http://www.hov-pod-hovercraft.com  HDPE is far stronger than glass fibre so is unlikely to need repair, but repair is simple to do with hot gun or solder iron to weld areas together.
